Educational Qualification
Candidates need an ITI pass certificate (NCVT or SCVT) in the trade they are applying for. Each of the 18 trades maps to a specific ITI discipline, so a Fitter applicant needs the Fitter certificate, an Electrician applicant needs Electrician or Wireman, and so on.
Age is counted as on 19 August 2026, the closing date. Minimum 18 years, maximum 24 years. Anyone who has already done or is currently doing apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act 1961 in any Government, PSU or private organisation is not eligible to apply.

Selection Process
- Shortlisting on the basis of percentage of marks obtained in the ITI course
- In case of a tie, higher percentage in 10th/8th standard is placed higher on the merit list (8th class only for Welder, Carpenter/Wood Work Technician, Mason/Civil Mistry, Plumber)
- If still tied, the candidate born earlier is considered
- Selected list for each trade published on the IGCAR website
- Document Verification
- Standard medical examination prescribed by the Competent Authority

Training and No-Employment Condition
The training duration is one year at IGCAR, Kalpakkam. The engagement is strictly under the Apprentices Act 1961, and there is no provision for employment on completion of training. Candidates cannot claim employment. On passing the trade test, apprentices are awarded the National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by the Controller of Examination (DGT).

- Complete mandatory AADHAR (e-KYC) verification of your enrollment on the portal
- Keep scanned PDF documents ready: caste/disability/EWS certificate, and 8th/10th mark sheet, ITI trade certificate (NCVT/SCVT), semester-wise and consolidated mark sheet scanned as a single PDF

There are 200 Trade Apprentice seats across 18 trades. The largest are Fitter with 46 seats, Electrician with 22, PASAA with 19 and Instrument Mechanic with 18. Eight vacancies are identified for PwBD candidates.
Minimum age is 18 years and maximum age is 24 years as on 19 August 2026, the closing date. Age relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (NCL) and 10 years for PwBD candidates.
